Caught by a Volcanic Eruption

Whoever would have thought it! Iceland..... the pinnacle of my travels... explodes with excitement!
I know Changi Airport very well. I am very familiar with Air France. I feel the relationship has developed to a level of honesty that is unparrallelled...............
I landed in Changi on Thursday afternoon, and waited for the plane to Edinburgh that night.
I had no idea that Iceland had undergone a much larger eruption . I didn't read the papers in Vietnam.
Our flight was cancelled.. and we were handed Immigration forms and told to fill them out and to leave the airport... going through Immigration so we had to wait outside the secure area. Human beings are very obedient when caught napping. We complied and out we went, collected luggage and tried to find accommodation bnear the airport. It was all booked upa and the hotels were charging 400-500 SD per night. I decided that one night on the floor wouldn't matter. In fact, I found a lovely little pair of seats... plastic airport variety........ and loaded my gear on them, put on a heavier jacket and put my head down......................... The cacophony of music, voices and jack hammers assaulted my senses.............. who could sleep? Hav esome really attractive pics of the efforts made!
No sleep, plenty tired
Upstairs to find some coffe in the morning at 5.... and found a comfortable seat where I stayed. Joined up with a few interesting characters............ couple from scotland , others from UK, Australia and East Timor. There was nothing we could do but we did accost the airport management re information. Air France refused to answer phones or even send a company re[p to speak with us... there was a plane full of people who were tired and cranky. Spent the day getting hopeful and losing hope.... Got texts from folk with info as we were getting nothing. Mobile phones were flat for many and ther was no place to charge them and no internet( no computer either) yes we were going, no we werent, yes, no ..... Fortuantely our little band was made of strong stuff and the constant harrassment of the staff gave us some satisfaction.
Finally at 9 it was announced that the flight was cancelled. We forced the Air France person to let our group back into the airport... good sob stories and excellent assertion of personalities!
We got in, slept on the floor again...... I am so tired. We have , in our group, an 86 year old woman, a veteran of the east Timor battles during the second World War, and they will not give her any comfortable place to be. She is travelling with her daughter. She is a beautiful woman with age that demands respect. I am disgusted with that company. She was forced to sleep on a seat last night......
I am in the Rainforest Lounge again.............. have booked a bed for tonight in case w are still here. I had a shower this morning. we were all the same and did not recognise any weird odours!

So folks......... I am ok. I have never been impacted on by a volcanic eruption before and I think it is amazing. AND I will get to Iceland and see it first hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait now..... then I will have stories to tell. Just gotta get to Paris. Then two of the people in this group are goign to Edinburgh too, so I will follow like a lost puppy.

Mobile phone is flat so am going to find a plug to charge it with today. thenwill text a few folks or you can call me .
